Project First Submitted - 2361 History : The Intrepid Class Starship was considered one of the hardest ships ASDB have design to date with 12 redesigns completed before USS Intrepid was finally commissioned. The Original project brief was for a long range scout ship, however this was altered to an Explorer class vessel. One of the major considerations was a ships that could sustain high warp velocities for a greater length of time than what had currently been produced. As with most Starship design the first area for consideration was the Warp core. Using field data gathered from the Galaxy class project engineers felt that a number of modifications could be made to produce a high power and yet reliable MARA core. The ships was completed in record time partially due to the Weakened state of the Federation after the Borg incident at Worf 359. The projected build time for the Intrepid Class Starship was originally set at 14 years, however with increased manpower and new facilities and equipment this was reduced to a record 5 years, nearly one third of the original estimate. However there were considerable modification that took place during the construction of the ship, a prime example being the variable geometry Warp Nacelles which were only implemented within the last years of the construction |

Construction Timeline 2361: Intrepid Class Submitted and Approved By The Federation. 2362: Production of USS Intrepid and USS Voyager begins at Earth Station McKinley. 2363: Superstructure of Both ships nearing completion - USS Intrepid's computer cores are welded into place. 2366:Superstructure of second ship, now named USS Voyager completed. Problems are arising with all of the ship. The warp nacelles are incorrect when mated up to the ships. Data corruption error found in transmission logs to the Antaries Ships yards who produced the Nacelles. All work on the aft sections of all ships are stopped. 2367: New orders come in from Teh Federation regarding damage to Subspace through warp travel. Redesign of the nacelles holding structure begins. USS 's Warpcore is powered up. Massive plasma leak wrecks several main computer relays. Nobody is injured in the accident. Problem is repaired and modifications occur on the other two ships. 2368: USS Intrepid incorporates new Nacelle holding structure with variable nacelle angle to solve Subspace damage problem. Daystrom institute begins work on a new computer interface system using Biological components. System shows a 40% increase in ship wide response times over isolinear chips. During the latter end of the year work on USS Intrepid nears completion. Work on USS Voyager continues. 2369: USS Intrepid is launched and begins systems testing. Work on USS Voyager nears completion. Two more ships are ordered by The Federation. 2370: USS Intrepid is commissioned. USS Voyager is Launched and begins testing. 2372: Construction is complete on USS Olympus. It is moved to Starbase 416 for final outfitting and shake down before being assigned to the Ty Worm Hole in the ALPHA quadrant. It will be the First Federation Ship to house a Klingon Bird of Prey in it's shuttle bay. It will also have a contigent of Klingon Warriors assigned to the USS Olympus. |
